Sette famiglie reali regnavano sui sette regni, prosperando sul pianeta per lungo tempo. Finché l' Ohisama no Megumi cioè la stella interna cominciò a declinare, e fu predetto che sarebbe scomparsa entro l'anno. Se fosse morta tutti i pianeti sarebbero andati in rovina. Le principesse gemelle Fine e Rein ricevono da Grace la missione di indagare sul declino della stella. Grazie ai poteri della Providenza, esse possono sperare di salvare l'Onisama no Megumi. Durante la loro missione, un malvagio cancelliere chiamato Roman comincia a interessarsi al potere della stella per usarlo a proprio piacimento. Dopo la liberazione del nemico supremo, l'intera storia cambia il suo corso.Successivamente nella serie, il principe Bright diventa malvagio sotto i poteri maligni di Boomo, che vuole dominare Fushigiboshi con i poteri dell'oscurità, mentre le principesse Fine e Rein con altre persone indagano su tutto questo.
